Story Time

After I was in labor for 16 LOOOONGG, painful hours Owen Paul Clyde was born at 7:52 a.m on Oct. 27. What a blessing it was to see him and to hold him right when he came out. Everything seemed fine, but they whisked him away to the NICU at Utah Valley Hospital for some minor respiratory problems. I got cleaned up and was taken to my room where I would stay for the next two nights. I was exhausted and wanted to see my baby so bad! I just sat in my bed with the heaviest eyes that would not stay open, so I took a nap to rejuvenate before I could see Owen. A couple hours passed and my doctor then came into my room with the news. Owen was going to the bathroom through his umbilical cord and there were some problems trying to figure out the problem. His plumming was not working too well. So dr. came in and told us the news that they were going to have to transport him to Primary Children's to see some urology specialists. I was beside myself. Having not seen or held my little boy all day made things an emotional mess for me. I was comforted when Travis and his dad gave Owen a blessing that things would be alright and that we would know what was going on. He gave the baby to nurses and they put him in his incubator. Trav and I got to see him in the as they wheeled him in to my room I started to cry, seeing my baby in there when he should be in my arms. That night Travis went up to be with Owen and to talk to specialists about what was going on. Things seemed to be a jumbled mess because he was hearing different things right and left. At least he got to spend some time with his son. Owen was hooked up to monitors, was givin shots, and took tests. It had been a long day for all of us. Over the next three days Owen had been put on antibiotics because his white blood cell count was a little high. That meant he probably had an infection. The hospital told us that he would be monitored for a whole week and would not be able to come home till then. What a frustrating thing to hear. I got out of the hospital early Wednesday m0rning and we called up to the NICU to see what the latest was and how Owen's night had been. They told us that his umbilical cord opening had closed up and he was now peeing normally but would still need to come back in 6 months to get his urethra fixed and to be circumcized. What a miracle that the major problem had fixed on its own. Then they told us that it turns out Owen didn't have any type of infection and that instead of staying a week he could come home that Thursday. We could not wait!!!!! Thursday came and we went up there to get a few things passed off to get him out. We were there about 5 hours and then he was finally released!!!!! He hated his car seat on the car ride home. The second we walked through the door of our apartment I just snuggled him on the couch and loved every minute of it! This was such a learning experience and we are so so grateful for modern medicine, family, and good friends! We are so grateful for all the support, thoughts and prayers, dinners brought, groceries bought and kind text messages and comments that have helped us through this tough time. Owen is now home and loving to eat, sleep and poop. What newborn doesn't? Thanks again to all!
